“Stealing the bride” is an old Caucasian tradition. If the woman’s parents do not accept the marriage between their daughter and her groom, usually the woman will run away to the house of a neutral party with the aid of the groom and his relatives/friends. The traditional “stealing of the bride” custom is always consensual. Today, it has become a symbolic act.
